Degrees of Comparison: इस बात से इंकार नहीं किया जा सकता है कि सरकारी परीक्षाओं के लिए English Language Section की तैयारी आवश्यक है। चाहे वह SSC CGL टियर 1, टियर 2, SSC CHSL टियर 1, SSC MTS, SSC स्टेनोग्राफर टियर 1 और 2, SSC CPO टियर 1 और टियर 2 या कोई बैंक की परीक्षा हो। degrees of comparison अंग्रेजी भाषा सेक्शन का एक महत्वपूर्ण टॉपिक है जो कई उम्मीदवारों को परेशान करता है। degrees of comparison की मास्टरी निश्चित रूप से Degrees of adjectives, Sentence Improvement, Sentence Completion, Cloze Test
में आपकी सहायता करता है। अतः यह स्पष्ट है कि इस टॉपिक की प्रैक्टिस करना काफी लाभदायक है।

नियम(Rules)

नियम 1: यदि दो व्यक्तियों के बीच एक ही विशेषता की तुलना की जाए तो more या most का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

She is wiser than her brother. ✘
She is more wiser than her brother. ✔

नियम 2: जब किसी एक व्यक्ति या एक वस्तु के दो विशेषता की तुलना की जाती है तो पहले विशेषण के साथ MORE का प्रयोग किया जाता है, भले ही वह एक शब्दांश ही क्यों न हो।

He is wiser than shrewd. ✘
He is more wise than shrewd. ✔

नियम 3: याद रखें कि अब double comparatives or superlatives का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता है।

These shoes are more preferable than those.✘
These shoes are preferable to those. ✔

नियम 4: निरपेक्ष भाव(absolute sense) देने वाले विशेषण के साथ MORE या MOST का प्रयोग नहीं होता हैं। इसी प्रकार, हम “more parallel” या ”more square” या “more unique” आदि नहीं कह सकते।

This idea is more universal than that. ✘

नियम 5: निम्नलिखित विशेषणों के बाद to का प्रयोग होता हैं न की than का।

Junior, senior, inferior, prefer, preferable, superior, elder.

This piece of cloth is superior than that. ✘
This piece of cloth is superior to that. ✔
My sister is elder than me.
My sister is elder to me. ✔

नियम 6: दो वस्तुओं की तुलना करते समय समान चीजों की तुलना की जानी चाहिए।

The speed of this car is greater than the old one. ✘
The speed of this car is greater than that of the old one. ✔
(We cannot compare speed of the car with car)

नियम 7: जब comparative degree का उपयोग superlative sense में किया गया हो, तो :

यदि हम एक ही समूह की वस्तुओं या व्यक्तियों की तुलना कर रहे हैं तो ‘any other’ का प्रयोग करें।
यदि तुलना समूह के बाहर की चीजों या व्यक्तियों के साथ हो तो any का प्रयोग करें।

He is better than any student of his class. ✘
He is better than any other student of his class. ✔

Delhi is cleaner than any other city in Bangladesh. ✘
Delhi is cleaner than any city in Bangladesh. ✔

नियम 8: जब एक ही वाक्य में भिन्न degrees of comparison में दो विशेषणों का प्रयोग किया जाता है तो दोनों ही अपने आप में पूर्ण होने चाहिए।

He is as bad if not better than his brother. ✘
He is as bad as if not better than his brother. ✔

नियम 9: जब हम दो की तुलना करते हैं तो Comparative degree का प्रयोग किया जाना चाहिए और दो से अधिक की तुलना करते समय superlative degree का प्रयोग किया जाना चाहिए।

Among the three who is more hard working. ✘
Among the three who is the most hard working. ✔

नियम 10: जब THAN या AS के बाद first और second person pronouns हो तो verb को छोड़ा जा सकता है लेकिन third person के सर्वनाम के मामले में ऐसा नहीं किए जा सकता।

He is not a clever as his brother. ✘
He is not as clever as his brother is. ✔
